How To Be Natural On A Budget

Black America Web

You might think being natural will cost you more money. Wrong! Here’s how you can be natural on a budget and possibly save more money than before.

Do Your Own Hair

I’ve found it’s best to do your own hair when you are natural. A trip to the hair salon can cost you on average about $50 a visit, depending on what you are getting done. Doing your own hair cost, well, nothing. You can do the math on how much you could be saving. Plus, no one is going to care for your hair the way you would your own. Hairdressers are trying to get you in, out, and on to the next client.

Don’t Be A Product Junkie

If you do your own hair you will need to buy products, but you can only use but so many at a time. Don’t just buy something because it’s new…

Eat and Drink Australia : I’m lovin’ it with Mc Lamb burger!

FOODEVERYWHERE

I am lovin’ it even more with this lamb burger. Mc Donald’s is almost the favourite childhood memories for most of us. Yours truly is no exception. I remember looking forward to Sunday mornings very much because father would take us to the Kids club in McD’s and that’s when we get our favourite burger (well they only gave us one choice back then), the Mc Egg. That might be just the reason why I love McEggs so much. Probably because very much connected by those good memories and fun times I had with the rest of those kids every Sunday. I am so glad that the McEgg is back with the deluxe version. Read about Mc Egg Deluxe here

.
In different continent and countries, the Mc Donald’s serves different menu on top of their regular. For example, pork is definitely a no-no in Malaysia, and back…

Iced Cappuccino (DIY)

Iced Cappuccino (DIY)

Just like many other Canadians, Tim Horton’s Iced Cappuccino is one of the drinks we enjoy in summer (sometimes even in fall & winter). One day while brainstorming what we should experiment next in our Blendtec Blenders, we thought of Googling Tim’s Iced Cappuccino recipe. To our surprise we came across a recipe that actually comes pretty close to the actual beverage.

Here’s our take on it (slightly modified from the recipe found online):

Ingredients:
  • 2 oz. boiling water
  • 2 tablespoons Starbucks (mild flavor) instant coffee
  • 3 heaping tablespoons sugar
  • 4-6 ice cubes
  • 1/3 cup 35% whipping cream

Directions:

Bring water to boil and add it to the mug with instant coffee and sugar. Stir well. Pour the syrup into the blender along with ice and blend until it becomes slushy. Lastly, add whipping cream and blend for several seconds until the drink becomes frothy.

It’s been a while since…

Yes I am American and I was born Muslim

All American Muslima

This is   the type of thing that happens everyday. Well, maybe not every day but quite often. So I’m sitting in the Masjid with my sister watching our kids play and Arab woman enters. She asks a few questions concerning when the program will begin and I answer her. This is the first time I am seeing her. I neither know her name nor exactly where she is from. All I can tell about her is that english is not her first language and she has features of an Arab. She sits down across the room as the kids play. She looks at me and asks me if I am American. I answer her and then ask her if she is new to the community and her name. She answers and then asks my name. I say “Aneesah” and then surprisingly she says “Oh you have an Arabic name”…

An Open Letter From Assata

A Must Read!

Frontlines of Revolutionary Struggle

My name is Assata Shakur, and I am a 20th century escaped slave. Because of government persecution, I was left with no other choice than to flee from the political repression, racism and violence that dominate the US government’s policy towards people of color. I am an ex-political prisoner, and I have been living in exile in Cuba since 1984.

I have been a political activist most of my life, and although the U.S. government has done everything in its power to criminalize me, I am not a criminal, nor have I ever been one. In the 1960s, I participated in various struggles: the black liberation movement, the student rights movement, and the movement to end the war in Vietnam. I joined the Black Panther Party. By 1969 the Black Panther Party had become the number one organization targeted by the FBI’s COINTELPRO program. Because the Black Panther Party…
